Whenever I start to feel a cold coming on, the first thing I do is make this immune boosting tonic. The lemons, ginger, cinnamon, tumeric and raw honey are deeply nourishing, providing vitamin C, antioxidants, antimicrobial, antiviral, analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties - perfect to help fight colds and flu during the winter months. Depending on how strong you like it - either serve up a full cup, or as I like to do, fill a quarter cup and top with boiling water, adding a dash of raw honey.
Ingredients
1.5 litres of water
2 lemons, halved and sliced
6 white tea bags
3 cinnamon sticks
5 cm piece of ginger, thinly sliced
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
1/4 cup of raw apple cider vinegar
raw honey (to serve)
Directions
Pour the water in a pot and bring to a boil over a high heat.
Add the lemons, tea bags, cinnamon, ginger, and turmeric. Take off heat, cover and let steep for 30 minutes.
Add the apple cider vinegar into the mix.
Remove tea bags and pour the tea into a mason jar (you can keep the lemons and ginger in if you wish, if you do not want to then take them out).
Store in the fridge and warm up to drink. Add a teaspoon of raw honey.
